Decide which option is best for you: Off-Site Eradication or On-Site Eradication:

On-Site Eradication – Archive Data personnel will arrive at your facility and once your team briefs us on the specifics, we take it from there. You can remain as involved as you want in the process – our goal is to stay out of your way but to keep you as informed as you wish. Our team will perform a dual-verification process of data eradication. This means that we build an audit list of all drives or tapes that are meant for eradication and then we also provide an audit list of the drives and tapes that were eradicated. That way your team has clear visibility that nothing was missed during the process.

And don’t worry, we’ve seen it all. Whether it means having to truck up and down a 30-floor office tower all day long or working out of a spare conference room that over the years has been turned into a mountain of archive tapes and drives, our team is ready for anything you can throw at them.

Off-Site Eradication provides an extra layer of protection that may prove invaluable to you. The hard drives or tapes are audited on-site so that you have a list of the drive serial numbers or tape volsers to be eradicated. These drives or tapes are then sent via secure transport to our facility. Upon arrival at our secure facility, a second audit is performed. So now you have the first list to show exactly which drives or tapes left your facility and the second audit to show that each of these drives or tapes are now located in our facility and awaiting your final confirmation before any eradication work begins. Upon your confirmation to proceed, the eradication work begins and you are provided with a final certificate of data destruction.

This may seem like an unnecessary, extra step in the process. In fact – many of our clients have found that this was the absolutely most critical step. We’re always impressed at the detail with which our clients track of all their IT assets. But even the best of these processes is subject to plain old human error. Not your error of course, you can blame that new guy! A simple mistake made when cataloging that drive or tape into your system under the wrong location or status could mean that you are about to eradicate ACTIVE data… big headache!

This extra verification done during off-site eradication provides you with two key things: time and separation. You have as much time as you need to verify that those are indeed that drives or tapes that you MEANT to flag for destruction. Having the assets physically separated from your environment also makes the process much smoother as it will be easier for you to recognize any discrepancies, and thankfully you still have the time to act on them.
