Tripping over your archive tapes and drives? Ready to finally clean up that server room? Just because that data is old DOES NOT mean you can slack off… For a relatively low price tag — Archvie Data can help you to ensure that every piece off data is eradicated from every hard drive and tape. If you’d like, we can handle the end of life destruction or recycling of the drives and tapes themselves. Everything you need to get that server room back to its impeccable standard.

Decide which option is best for you: Off-Site Eradication or On-Site Eradication:

On-Site Eradication – Archive Data personnel will arrive at your facility and once your team briefs us on the specifics, we take it from there. You can remain as involved as you want in the process – our goal is to stay out of your way but to keep you as informed as you wish. Our team will perform a dual-verification process of data eradication. This means that we build an audit list of all drives or tapes that are meant for eradication and then we also provide an audit list of the drives and tapes that were eradicated. That way your team has clear visibility that nothing was missed during the process.

And don’t worry, we’ve seen it all. Whether it means having to truck up and down a 30-floor office tower all day long or working out of a spare conference room that over the years has been turned into a mountain of archive tapes and drives, our team is ready for anything you can throw at them.

Off-Site Eradication provides an extra layer of protection that may prove invaluable to you. The hard drives or tapes are audited on-site so that you have a list of the drive serial numbers or tape volsers to be eradicated. These drives or tapes are then sent via secure transport to our facility. Upon arrival at our secure facility, a second audit is performed. So now you have the first list to show exactly which drives or tapes left your facility and the second audit to show that each of these drives or tapes are now located in our facility and awaiting your final confirmation before any eradication work begins. Upon your confirmation to proceed, the eradication work begins and you are provided with a final certificate of data destruction.

This may seem like an unnecessary, extra step in the process. In fact – many of our clients have found that this was the absolutely most critical step. We’re always impressed at the detail with which our clients track of all their IT assets. But even the best of these processes is subject to plain old human error. Not your error of course, you can blame that new guy! A simple mistake made when cataloging that drive or tape into your system under the wrong location or status could mean that you are about to eradicate ACTIVE data… big headache!

This extra verification done during off-site eradication provides you with two key things: time and separation. You have as much time as you need to verify that those are indeed that drives or tapes that you MEANT to flag for destruction. Having the assets physically separated from your environment also makes the process much smoother as it will be easier for you to recognize any discrepancies, and thankfully you still have the time to act on them.

Studies have now shown that traditional methods of data eradication (or sanitization) MAY NOT be effective on flash-based solid state drives. The same architectural changes that make solid state drives (SSDs) so effective also make them structurally different when it comes to ensuring the safe and secure destruction of data stored on them. Play it safe and contact one of our service specialists!

Archive Data can ensure that the job is done right for you. And we will provide you the audit documentation you’ll need – whether that’s for regulatory compliance, job-security, or simply for peace of mind. This audit documentation is an often over-looked component of the end of life planning that can really come back to haunt you. Remember that these days it is not enough to document that IT assets were destroyed – you must be able to document that the data on them was destroyed.

Decide which option is best for you: Off-Site Eradication or On-Site Eradication:

The cartridges have been optimized and tested extensively for use in IBM LTO 4 tape drives and libraries to help maximize performance, minimize data loss and improve data longevity. They are designed to withstand rigors of normal use in stand-alone and automated environments. Each cartridge is embedded with an IBM LTO 4 Cartridge Memory (LTO-CM) chip, which is designed to enable fast, simultaneous transfer of cartridge-dependent data with IBM tape drives during media load and unload cycles. The green cartridge color helps distinguish it from previous generations of IBM LTO Ultrium Media.

The IBM LTO 4 Ultrium 800 GB Data Cartridge can be used in products featuring IBM LTO 4 tape technology. As your storage needs grow, your data cartridge can continue providing value to help maximize your investment.

Archive Verification Service – The Archive Verification Service allows you to provide full audits of all selected tapes to ensure readability. The service provides clear documentation of the verification audits for your regulatory compliance needs or service level agreements. The verification process occurs during library down-time and is automated for you by the RVA.
The Archive Verification Service provides a policy-based approach to verify system capability to read archived tape media over the course of its effective life. The service validates the readability of archived media. The validation process automatically loads media, verifies data can be read and allows for a verification schedule on user-defined policies. The technology is deployed out-of-band to the library controller and uses dedicated or shared drive(s) for archive verification. Reporting and alerting is automated and will convey the success or failure of tape media readability.

Library Overview Analysis – Many storage administrators see issues with backups continuing to take longer—failures occur, tapes are continually replaced, yet there isn’t a good understanding of the root cause. Meanwhile, storage needs are growing as budgets shrink.
The Library Overview Analysis Service provides comprehensive analytics on the health, performance and utilization of your tape library system. Delivered via a web portal, you will gain insight into the root causes of data errors, incomplete backups, system bottlenecks, and frequent component failure. Allowing you to maximize the investment of your current tape system while minimizing the risk to corporate data, you can identify low performing devices, under- or over-utilized assets, and degrading components. This information provides major cost savings through reductions in capital expenditures, ongoing maintenance, and premature device wear.

Tape Environment Analysis – Tape Environment Analysis is a detailed assessment of your current backup environment. Highly experienced storage engineers provide a deep analysis of your tape media and drive performance—even checking the health of each individual tape. Insight into potential cost savings, maximization of performance and identifying defective or degrading tape drives and media is provided. Recommendations are extensive and include: potential cost reductions, drive repair, media removal, library service, backup application configuration, and storage network configuration. All information is delivered in a detailed report to help maximize existing backup resources, avoid unnecessary expenditures on equipment, save time, meet compliance requirements and reduce the risk of lost data.

Library Monitoring & Alerts – Offers remote monitoring and support of tape systems. Fujifilm’s Library Monitoring and Alerts Service provides system-wide visibility by tracking a wide range of tape library parameters and providing daily reports on all significant operational events. Timely insight into potentially degrading conditions allows you to take immediate, corrective action to minimize risk to corporate data while reducing costs associated with troubleshooting issues and recovering from failed backups.

On Site Destruction, Recycling Option

Once we have performed the on-site eradication of data on your hard drives or back-up tapes, we strongly urge that you opt for our recycling option. We do offer the traditional incineration and shredding options if you require. We feel compelled to at least ask that you consider the planet and allow us to recycle the components so that we can reduce as much of the landfill requirement as possible. Not everything can be recycled, but every little bit counts. Even if we can only recycle 25% of the total product volume, that’s one step closer than releasing harmful gases into the environment via incineration or shredding the product and sending 100% of the resulting volume into landfills.

We do this be constantly testing the products and selecting only those compatible toner manufacturers that can live up to our quality standards. We do this because we know that you can find cheap, compatible toner anywhere — but we believe that the first goal is to offer you a quality product. One that happens to be at a substantial discount from OEM brands.
